It is a member of the tea family (Theaceae) and is known for its attractive white flowers that resemble fried eggs. The plant typically grows to a height of 15 to 30 feet (4.6 to 9.1 meters) and has a spread of 10 to 15 feet (3 to 4.6 meters). Its dark green leaves are oval-shaped and glossy, and its white flowers appear in the spring and summer. The flowers have a yellow center and a delicate, papery texture. Gordonia axillaris is a popular ornamental plant and is often used as a specimen plant or in groups in landscapes and gardens.
